Identifying and Overcoming Challenges for Offshore Hydrogen Projects

Hydrogen Hub

While developing green hydrogen projects offshore brings certain advantages such as greater access to vast source of water and getting out of sight of general public, offshore hydrogen production also brings new challenges that need to be accounted for and surmounted. Offshore projects are likely to be far away from the electrical grid, requiring them to operate in so called island mode, which brings a few electrical challenges. Offshore deployment also requires durable compact solutions, that not all OEMs have readily available yet. And once we produce the hydrogen offshore, what do we do with it if we are hundreds of kilometres away from our customers?

In this session we will look into identifying some of these challenges associated with developing hydrogen projects offshore and potential ways to overcome these.

Speaker:

Dr Diana Jelenova, Technical Lead - Green Hydrogen & PtX, ÌÇÐÄVlog

Hydrogen: Unfilled Potential?

Conference Room 2B

Hydrogen has been heralded as a key part of the energy transition; however, progress remains slow with issues in the technology, government tools and practicality. Accelerating the business and investment models is necessary to create a hydrogen economy.

This session will address pertinent issues including how we make hydrogen, what the key technology dependencies are, how it is moved and stored and what the anticipated uses for it are. We will discuss the European perspective on the role of hydrogen and the critical steps and government tools being used to get the hydrogen economy moving and bring the opportunity to life. Finally, what progress is being made on projects and market evolution and what are the next steps to kickstarting projects?

Moderator:

Nigel Holmes, CEO, Hydrogen Scotland

Speakers:

Dr Diana Jelenova, Technical Lead - Green Hydrogen & PtX, ÌÇÐÄVlog

Donna Sutherland, Head of Commercial, Veri Energy

Martyn Tulloch, Director of Energy Transition, Net Zero Technology Centre

Robert Seehawer, Managing Director, AquaVentus

Robert Evers, Offshore Hydrogen Development Manager, Gasunie NV
